Antarctica 

I've been to the frozen continent twice for work. Once in 1996 and then again in 2010.

 

The picture below shows Scott Base which is the New Zealand scientific establishment originally built to support the British TAE (Trans Antarctic Expedition). The original A Hut is still on site and is maintained as a heritage building displaying New Zealand explorers' artifacts dating back to that 1950s era.

 

Once you've been to Scott Base, the return is even better, as the environment is unique and the sights, sounds and sensations have a fond familiarity. I think the redevelopment of Scott Base, albeit scaled down from the original three interlinked buildings, will be an exciting project that, through its well-planned functional integration and staged implementation, will future-proof the base.
 

The photo below shows Scott Base from the air looking North towards Mt Erebus which can be seen in the distance. Note also the pressure ridges that form as the Ross sea ice is driven into the shore.
